BEGIN YOUR JOURNEY AT RUTLEDGE FALLS

Start your adventure at Rutledge Falls in Tullahoma. This hidden treasure is a peaceful oasis in the forest where the water from Crumpton Creek rolls over the rocks in a beautiful waterfall. During the warmer months, you can wade into the waters or just stand on the shore and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.

RIDE FROM RUTLEDGE FALLS TO SHORT SPRINGS NATURAL AREA
(3 miles, about 15 minutes)

1) Ride west on Rutledge Falls Road toward Rutledge Falls Trail.
2) Turn left onto Short Springs Road.
3) After about 1 mile, arrive at the Short Springs Natural Area.

 

SHORT SPRINGS NATURAL AREA
Tullahoma, TN

It's a 1.6-mile hike along the Machine Falls loop through the Short Springs Natural Area, but your efforts will be rewarded! This scenic forest canopy is part of a 420-acre designated natural area managed by the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation. Along the hike, you'll see some natural features that are unique to the region like black Chattanooga shale, mountain laurel, and beautiful waterfalls. It's lovely any time of year, but if you're visiting in the springtime Short Springs is one of the best places to see wildflowers in all of Tennessee.

RIDE FROM SHORT SPRINGS NATURAL AREA TO THE ICE CREAM DISTILLERY
(5 miles, about 25 minutes)

1) Ride southwest on Short Springs Road toward Powell Road.
2) Continue straight onto Country Club Drive.
3) Turn right onto Hood Drive.
4) Turn left onto Forrest Drive.
5) Curve to the left to continue on N Anderson Street.
6) Turn right onto E Grizzard Street.
7) Turn left onto NE Atlantic Street.
8) Turn right onto E Lincoln Street.
9) The Ice Cream Distillery will be on the left.

 

THE ICE CREAM DISTILLERY
131 W Lincoln Street in Tullahoma, TN

Time for an ice cream break! At The Ice Cream Distillery they make every creamy scoop by hand in small batches using all natural and locally sourced ingredients. The artisan ice cream itself is delicious, but you should really splurge on one of their custom creations like a Chocolate Sprinkle Donut. You don't be disappointed - a sweet treat never tasted so good!

RIDE FROM THE ICE CREAM DISTILLERY TO GEORGE A. DICKEL & CO.
(6 miles, about 30 minutes)

1) Ride northeast on W Lincoln Street toward N Wall Street.
2) Turn left onto NE Atlantic Street.
3) Turn right onto Brown Street.
4) Turn left onto Davidson Street.
5) Turn right onto E Catron Street, then bear left to continue on Fort Street.
6) Turn left and continue onto Ovoca Road.
7) At the fork, make a slight left onto Riley Creek Road.
8) Turn left onto Cascade Hollow Road.
9) George A. Dickel & Co. will be on the right.

1950 Cascade Hollow Road in Tullahoma, TN

The Dickel fine Tennessee Whisky distillery has been in Cascade Hollow since 1870. To this day their fine Tennessee Whiskies are distilled here! Stop by the visitor center for a tour of the distillery ($12) and some light shopping at the "General Store."

RIDE FROM GEORGE A. DICKEL & CO. TO NORMANDY KAYAK RENTAL & NORMANDY FISH HATCHERY
(2 miles, about 10 minutes)

1) Ride north on Cascade Hollow Road.
2) Turn right onto Front Street. Normandy Kayak Rental will be on the right between Main Street and Poplar.
3) Follow the curve to the right to continue on Huffman Street.
4) Normandy Fish Hatchery will be on the right.

 

NORMANDY KAYAK RENTAL
205 Blackman Blvd W in Wartrace, TN

Stop at Normandy Kayak Rental and "Float the Duck." Hop in a kayak and paddle down the peaceful and picturesque Duck River. There's friendly faces - and wagging tails - here to greet you 7 days a week. Reservations are strongly recommended, so call ahead!

 

NORMANDY FISH HATCHERY
380 Huffman Road in Normandy, TN

The Normandy Fish Hatchery raises fish to be released back into lakes, rivers and streams in Tennessee. Stop here for a fascinating tour of the hatchery's ponds and egg harvesting facility.

(15 miles, about 1 hour 26 minutes)

1) Ride west on Huffman Street toward Barton Drive.
2) Turn right onto Red Hill Road.
3) Turn left to stay on Red Hill Road.
4) Turn left onto TN-269 E/Cortner Road.
5) Turn right onto Bugscuffle Road.
6) Turn left onto Haley Road.
7) At the fork at Cannon Road, turn left to stay on Haley Road.
8) Turn left onto TN-64 W.
9) Make a slight right to continue on Madison Street.
10) Turn right onto Deery Street.
11) Turn left onto Fairfield Pike.
12) Turn right onto N Main Street.
13) Turn left onto Quarry Street.
14) Turn right onto Green Lane.
15) The Microtel Inn & Suites will be on the right.

TO GO TO SOUTHERN FARE FOR A MEAL

1) Ride south on Green Lane toward Quarry Street.
2) Turn left onto Quarry Street.
3) Turn right onto N Main Street.
4) Turn right onto N Cannon Blvd.
5) Turn right onto Lane Pkwy.
6) Southern Fare will be on the right.

1) Ride south on Green Lane toward Quarry Street.
2) Turn left onto Quarry Street.
3) Turn right onto N Main Street.
4) Turn right onto N Cannon Blvd.
5) At the intersection at Lane Pkwy., dismount your bicycle and cross the street.
6) Turn right onto Public Square North/Holland Street.
7) The Public Square will be on the left.

Take a stroll around the Public Square in Shelbyville. You can visit the local shops, stop for a famous merengue pie at Pope's Cafe, and enjoy the small town charm of this quaint town square.

(10 miles, about 1 hour)

1) Ride south on N Main Street toward E Franklin Street.
2) Turn left onto E Franklin Street.
3) Turn left onto Deery Street.
4) Make a slight right to continue onto Fairfield Pike.
5) Turn right onto Arnold Road.
6) Turn left onto Horse Mountain Road/Horse Mountain Wartrace Road.
7) Turn right onto TN-269 E/Bridgeview Street.
8) Turn right onto Spring Street.
9) Turn left onto Blackman Blvd E.
10) Turn right onto Broad Street.
11) Turn right onto Vine Street.
12) Tennessee Walking Horse National Museum will be on the right.

 

TENNESSEE WALKING HORSE NATIONAL MUSEUM

The Tennessee Walking Horse National Museum preserves the history of the graceful and unique Tennessee Walking Horse and the riders and owners who popularized the breed. Wartrace is known as the "Cradle of the Tennessee Walking Horse," a breed of horse with an international following that originated here.

1) Ride north on Vine Street toward Broad Street.
2) Turn left onto Broad Street.
3) Turn left onto Blackman Blvd E.
4) Turn right onto Spring Street.
5) Turn left onto TN-269 W/Bridgeview Street.
6) Curve to the right to continue to follow TN-269 heading north.
7) Turn right onto Webb Road.
8) Turn left onto High Street.
9) Seasons Bed & Breakfast will be on the left.

Your journey ends in Bell Buckle. Park your bike at Seasons Bed & Breakfast where you can spend some time unwinding and rocking on the porch. Ride out on foot to make your way around the charming small town of Bell Buckle. A local cafe, coffee shop, and adorable antique shops are within 1 square block of the B&B.
