South Central Tennessee

  • South Central Tennessee is home to some of the state’s most well-known adventures, from floating the Buffalo to biking the Natchez Trace. It also hosts some amazing hidden gems, like dozens of rushing waterfalls, five unique state parks and some of the South Central’s best fishing spots, just to name a few. If you love outdoor adventure and you’ve never explored this region, here are eight reasons it belongs on your travel list, plus recommendations on what to see and do.

  • Imagine traveling to a new city in search of treasure—treasure that could be as small as a pill bottle or as large as a filing cabinet. It might be hidden under a rock in a remote wilderness or beneath a mailbox on a busy street. And when you locate it, rather than taking the bounty with you, you explore its contents, log your discovery and leave it for the next treasure hunter to find.

From your seat at the back of the canoe,  you gaze from side to side at the green, refreshing forest that surrounds your little boat and casts shade across the calm river. A glance into the water reveals a clear view to the river’s gravel bed, as a smallmouth bass swims by.

  • If you trace the history of distilled spirits in America, at some point your path will wind through the hills and hollows of Tennessee. Since the 18the century, folks in the region have produced whiskey, but if you venture to the central part of the state you’ll also find a growing number of wineries as well as distilleries making a wide variety of spirits.
